The Power of Philosophy
Not long ago, I was talking with an acquaintance. Interestingly enough they were in school studying psychology. As a liberal arts major also had their fill of philosophy. As I discussed various topics with them; I could see they were well-read and obviously knew a thing or two about many subjects. When I noted they had a psychology textbook with them at our local Starbucks, I asked them;
So, what branch of psychology most intrigues you so far? I know it is a HUGE subject. Liking the topic myself, I feel there is so much more than just learning the names of dead white men who had ideas which seem so obvious; I don’t feel it’s fair to even to give them credit. As many of those are all natural thoughts that anyone with an active mind would consider. But I have the same charge for the study of philosophical topics. Everyone so interested in citing the names of past period philosophers. They forget what topic they were on.
Well, with that said we both have a laugh. He admitted that he was not too keen on what Freud or Nietzsche had to say, but did enjoy Greek philosophy, and how people thought, how the mind worked, and even how to program artificial intelligence to mimic the processes of the organic human brain.
Philosophy and philosophical concept are important factors to understand the creation and the very existence. It also stretches its wider span to cover the beginning, end and beyond. It covers both physical and transcendental life. The rhythmic movements’ sway between abstract sense and reality can be understood only through philosophy. There were significant disagreements and oppositions to the philosophy and philosophers; in the past.
The modern era is witnessing the importance of philosophy
The philosophical doctrine submitted by grand masters of the ancient period is still conspicuous by its effects. The need of the hour is to understand the abstract and the reality regarding being. It is stretching from before, after and beyond the existence hence, require serious thinking and discussion.
Philosophy is not only necessary and essential in our life but also in thinking and decision making. The popular belief; in the educated hierarchy; stressed that philosophy is incapable of adapting itself to present and future. However, it is also a fact that without philosophy the conception of thought culminating into factual ending remains inconclusive. The historical background of any event bears witness to the cohesiveness in philosophical approach to the situation.
Some believe that it is the past mistakes that relegate the philosophy in the background making it ineffective. In contrast, Philosophy and its application leave a profound impact, which provides leading clues to the unanswered questions.
The grand masters of the ancient and modern era
These have unequivocally established that philosophy is based on certainty and within human possibility. At the outset, all solutions are philosophically conceptualized, and then evidently provide conclusive answers. Therefore, we cannot eliminate the very concept of philosophy from our life. It is the cornerstone of the foundation of thoughts. It is also the building block of progress and propagation of life.
Those who possess knowledge have cultivated rich dividends from the philosophical approach. They also lay down the path to be followed by all in achieving positive results. The individuals who possess peripheral knowledge are required to follow the leaders in finding their goal. The do’s and don’ts of life reflect the practical aspect of life; yet the finer intricate meaning of life needs philosophical line of thinking. To achieve sublimity and elevate own status to the dizzy height of perfection certainly needs philosophy.
What good is a liberal arts degree?
Indeed, this is a question that bothers me. Some people say it’s important to go to college so that you can learn how to complete what you start. I think that rationale is baloney; along with the logic that getting a liberal arts degree teaches you how to think. Indeed, by my observations; it teaches you how to take tests and memorize information.
I’m not sure you need to pay tens of thousands of dollars in student loans to do that. Of course, that’s just my opinion; but I thought I might bring to your attention.
